AFL – We Need a Men’s Mental Health Round
In a week of upsets in the AFL this weekend including Freo getting up over the Giants, North Melbourne beating Richmond, Demons beating Lions, and even Eagles finally getting their first win of the year. The real news and most upsetting story of the entire week was the awful tragedy of Adam Selwood’s passing. The Selwood family have been staples of the AFL community as four brothers all played for major footy teams in the league. However, it was revealed in the early hours of Saturday morning that the incredible Adam Selwood had taken his own life, with his twin brother Troy doing the same just months prior. The news has sparked much debate about whether the AFL should hold a yearly Men’s Mental Health Round after the devastating news. It’s left the community shattered, Collingwood Football Club Coach Craig McCrae in particular made headlines with his response to the news as he was given the tough decision of withholding the news from the pies players as to help them focus during a crucial game. A decision that visually pained the Collingwood coach.
F1 – The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix
Overnight in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix saw Max Verstappen secure a win, with an amazing first corner overtake setting up his victory. Australia’s Oscar Piastri from McLaren made a couple of poor decisions that led to him finishing in third place behind McLaren team mate Lando Norris. Despite a poor qualifying finish Ferrari were able to recover and saw Lewis Hamilton finish in 4th and partner Charles Leclerc in 6th.
NRL – State of Origin Maroons Game 1 Squad Announced
The first round of the State of Origin arrives next Wednesday at Suncorp Stadium. Billy Slater has today named his Maroons Squad ahead of the first game next week with three debutants Robert Toia, Trent Loerio, and Bea Fermor. You can catch the full squad below!
