Whyalla-born Barrie Robran, considered to be the one of the best football players SA has ever produced, has passed away at the age of 77.
He moved from the city in 1966 to play juniors for North Adelaide, beginning his League career in 1967.
Mr. Robran was a seven-time North Adelaide best-and-fairest winner, taking home three Magarey Medals and winning two SANFL premierships.
His prowess on the field has been immortalized with a statue at Adelaide Oval (pictured).
Speaking to Channel Seven, Roosters premiership coach Josh Carr said it’s been a sad day for SA footy.
“He was huge to the North Adelaide Football Club and obviously South Australian football,” he said.
“He was just such a humble person for the success he had, so my thoughts and our thoughts as a football club are to the Robran family.”
