A piece of Whyalla footy history from nearly a century ago has been uncovered…
A 1927 Whyalla Sports Association medal has been discovered by the granddaughter of Harold Morris Smith, a player for Central from 97 years ago.
Before this discovery, the oldest known medal was a 1932 premiership medal awarded to Harold McGuiness who played for North.

The association medals were replaced by the Mail Medal in 1934, and today’s Best and Fairest is named the Jim Hewitson Medal.
