Opponents of a proposed Billy Lights Point desalination plant have had their say at a public forum in Port Lincoln last night.
Held at the Nautilus Theatre, a number of speakers, including professors in marine science and biology, Paul McShane and Ib Svane, voiced their concerns about SA Water’s planned site.
It comes only a day after the organisation held its own desalination plant marine science forums in the city.
A spokesperson from SA Water said they were unable to attend the Hands Off Boston Bay group’s forum.
Speaking last night, owner of Tackleworld Port Lincoln and member of Recfish SA, Shane Hodgens, said we definitely need a desalination plant, but they don’t want it in the area.
“I’ve spoken to so many people in the shop on a daily basis and it’s pretty much a resounding no for a desalination plant in Billy Lights Point,” he said.
“We would just want SA Water and the Government to listen to us and just say no.”
