Curb loneliness in the regions

A national survey of more than 1200 men found nearly one in two are lonely (43%), with high levels of loneliness reported by more than one in six men (16%).

Experts say the health risks of loneliness are similar to alcohol consumption, smoking and obesity.

CEO of Healthy Male Simon von Saldem says men in regional areas are fortunate to have a greater opportunity to form strong connections with their community.

“The social engagement required to help people with their loneliness exists better in the country than it does in the city, Mr Saldem says.

“If you’re feeling lonely and you’re living in rural or regional Australia, tap into some of that.”
