A house has been left with extensive damage following a structure fire at Cummins on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula on Thursday afternoon.
About 4.30pm on January 29, 10 Country Fire Service (CFS) volunteer firefighters responded to reports of a house fire, deploying two fire trucks to the scene.
Crews were able to quickly contain the blaze, which is believed to have started in a front bedroom, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring properties.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus worked to stop the fire from completely engulfing the home, with their swift and skilled response limiting further damage.
While the property owners were not home at the time of the fire, crews were able to salvage some contents from inside the house.
Despite their efforts, the home sustained significant smoke and fire damage, with losses estimated at around $500,000.
SA Police and SA Ambulance provided support at the scene.
The cause of the fire is currently undetermined, with fire investigators expected to attend.
