Many Port Lincoln locals have already made the leap into the swimming enclosure attached to the refurbished town jetty.

The important piece of infrastructure reopened on Saturday, 25 November, after Maritime Constructions completed the works.

Works included the replacement of all decking and kerbing, 41 new piles, crossheads, girders and cross braces, and new handrails and ladders.

Port Lincoln Mayor Diana Mislov says this is a fantastic outcome and she’s excited for the community.

“It’s super exciting to see people already walking there, potentially fishing there in the evenings, and just generally using the facilities, she says.

“We’ve still got a few things to do, some seating that’s coming…but for the most part the jetty’s accessible to everyone and we hope everyone has a good time enjoying it.”

The project encountered some setbacks, including a lack of funds to complete the end of the jetty.

Mayor Mislov says this was remedied with with local and state funding.

“The Department for Infrastructure and Transport released some funding for jetty infrastructure, it was $20 million over a number of years for joint projects between local government and state government.

“We applied and asked ‘Please can we have some money just to finish off the end, 50/50 funding between council and state government?’ and they were very receptive.”
