National worker shortage hitting regions the hardest

Regional Australia has been hit the hardest by the nation’s worker shortage, putting a handbrake on economic growth.

It comes as a new analysis identifies a Job Vacancy Crunch Rate measuring the ratio of job openings to working-age Australians not currently in the labour force.

The analysis shows the region covering the Eyre Peninsula has a crunch rate of 4 per cent.

Saxon Davidson from the Institute of Public Affairs says red tape and tax barriers are preventing many people who want to work from doing so.
