Boaties in Port Lincoln are being urged to slow down, with a new digital speed sign installed at Lincoln Cove Marina.

The sign is designed to encourage compliance with the four-knot limit, using real-time feedback to show vessel speed.

Those travelling within the limit are rewarded with a green smiley face, while anyone going too fast will see a flashing warning to slow down.

Authorities say similar technology has already proven effective in Adelaide, helping to reduce speeds and improve safety on busy waterways.

It’s hoped the new sign will boost safety at the marina for both people and marine life, particularly in high-traffic areas.

The installation follows a successful trial interstate, with officials confident the visual reminder will lead to better behaviour from boat operators using the popular local marina.
