Port Lincoln planted its first Peace Pole today, joining 200,000 others worldwide.
The Peace Pole spreads a universal message in four languages, saying ‘May peace prevail on earth’.
The Rotary Club of Port Lincoln’s Robyn Rowsell says they’re pleased to be part of the world peace initiative.
“Peace Pole is an idea that started back in 1955, it happened just after World War II and people were really looking for peace, Ms Rowsell explains.
“The way that Port Lincoln became involved is that Adelaide Rotary Club is celebrating 100 years… and they wanted to spread 100 Peace Poles throughout South Australia, so Port Lincoln decided to grab two.”
The second pole will be placed on the Port Lincoln Foreshore when works are complete.
