Eyre Peninsula residents are concerned about the condition of their roads according to a recent RAA survey.

More than 1,300 residents responded to the survey, and 43 per cent of them rated the local road network unsatisfactory – particularly Lincoln Highway, Flinders Highway and Eyre Highway.

An increase in truck movements was noted as well, with 87 per cent of respondents saying they noticed the surge since the closure of the train line in 2019 – adding to the road damage.

RAA Senior Manager of Road Safety and Infrastructure Charles Mountain says the influx of heavy vehicles on Eyre Peninsula roads calls for a greater level of management; however, there is currently an estimated $2 billion backlog of road maintenance which is continuing to grow.

The RAA will be releasing a comprehensive report on the issue later this year.
