Whyalla Leisure Centre’s renewal has been delayed following unexpected high costs.
Whyalla City Council put the work out to tender earlier this year, covering the installation of a new spa, new splash pad play area and learn to swim pool, new underfloor plumbing, plant room upgrades, removal of the slide, re-tiling and grouting of the 25-metre pool, and other upgrades.
All tender responses quoted significantly higher than anticipated.

Whyalla Mayor Phill Stone says this is an example of how soaring costs of services are impacting regional communities.
The Council are working to find a way to deliver the project within budget while ensuring they return value for the community’s investment.
