Port Lincoln CBD Access and Car Parking Action Plan

The Port Lincoln City Council are inviting community members to give their feedback on the draft CBD Access and Car Parking Action Plan.

The plan released this week gives an overview of council’s plans and intentions for the CBD and parking arrangements.

In what has been a controversial topic among the wider community with the loss of car parks, council have expressed their thoughts behind redeveloping the system as a whole and creating a space that is vibrant and accessible to all road users with up to 3,000 care parks available.

Mayor Brad Flaherty says it’s not just about the car parks, it also looks at how long people are in the parks with one of the main goals to get vehicles ‘turning over’ and making sure that long term parkers are not overstaying in prime spots.

“The goal of the Action Plan is to create a vibrant and accessible CBD and foreshore area, with adequate and well managed car parking to service the precinct as a whole. Importantly though, car parking itself is not the destination,”

Based on the best available information the Port Lincoln CBD and foreshore area has over 3,000 car parking spaces available for public use (excluding loading, disabled permit, taxi, bus and motorcycle zones).

The Action Plan aims to:

-  Manage the parking assets for best results, not necessarily ‘build more’ public parking

-  Progressively focus on shorter term parking in the ‘inner CBD’ and longer term parking in the ‘outer CBD’

-  Ensure that walking around the CBD and foreshore from car parking to destinations is safe and enjoyable.

“This is the time for the community as a whole to provide constructive feedback on some realistic and achievable solutions and strategies on how access and parking in the CBD and foreshore may be improved upon”, said Mayor Brad Flaherty.
