New figures released by the Department for Environment and Water have shown that the December holidays were a bumper year for our national parks with an additional 12 thousand visitors when compared to the same time last year.
River and Coastal Parks saw the biggest year on year increase, with the Lincoln National park welcoming double the average visitor numbers for the period, and international border closures resulting in many Australians holidaying in their own backyard, and in regional national parks.
The department highlighted the two-fold benefit of the increase in numbers of tourists for regional communities, with more people staying the night, spending money and supporting local economies.
