Local patients are being warned about the "Americanisation" of our health system with major insurers accused of sliding towards a 'managed care' model here in Australia.

Concerns have been raised about profit-based insurers buying up GP clinics and partnering with overseas companies to provide healthcare data and other services.

Matthew Koce from the Members Health Fund Alliance says that should ring alarm bells for governments, healthcare providers and especially patients.
