Whalers Way locals will rally against a proposed suborbital rocket launch complex in the area this Sunday.
Southern Launch is proposing to build the compex, and has attempted to launch three rockets from the site, however strong winds, technical faults and the rocket catching alight during an ignition sequence postponed the launch.
The ‘Protect Our Wilderness’ rally, featuring guest speakers, will start at 10am on the Port Lincoln foreshore, followed by a community information session at the Anglican Parish Hall.
Spokesperson for the Eyre Peninsula Environmental Protection Group, Richard Anthony Lloyd, says if people have concerns about the project to come to the rally.
"I want people to know that our group is not opposed to rockets per se. We think they can go and have their rockets somewhere else, but Whalers Way is not the appropriate site for this and it will change forever the landscape of our life experience down here on the Eyre Peninsula," he said.
"The main issues [are] bushfires, water and endangered species. We've got a number of experts involved with us [with] some of them working behind the scenes, and if you come along to the rally you'll hear them speak along these issues."
