Local Students Take Part in Road Safety Event

A number of Eyre Peninsula students are attending a road safety awareness event in Adelaide this week, aiming to reduce road trauma among young people.

Students from Streaky Bay Area School and Whyalla High School are taking part in the RAA’s Street Smart High program, the largest youth road safety event in the state, with almost 7,800 teenagers gathering at the Entertainment Centre.

The event aims to develop positive road safety knowledge, skills and attitudes amongst the next generation of road users in SA.

A simulated crash scene, stories from people who’ve been affected by road accidents and information on the ANCAP star ratings will be included in the four hour program.

Latest figures show 26 young people, aged between 16 to 25, lost their lives and 143 were seriously injured on the state’s roads in the 12 months to September 2021.
