Community and business leaders, as well as Tunarama Ambassador entrants, celebrated the program launch at the Port Lincoln offices last night.

The festival will celebrate its 60th anniversary when it opens on the 21st of January, however the town parade and the fireworks have been cut for COVID safety reasons.

A number of events will also need tickets, which will be free and available from New Years Day.

Festival coordinator Jane Intini has praised the sponsors who supported the event in the face of COVID.

"Tunarama hasn't earned any money for 20 months, so without the sponsors there's just no festival and it's just a lovely thing to be able to stand up in front of those people who have supported you through this very difficult environment that we've all gone through and to say thank you and to announce our program for 2022," she said.

She says she has her fingers crossed 2022’s event will go ahead.

"We're just working really super hard to get what we can up and understanding that at any point, the Government may say 'sorry, you can't do it' based on COVID things, so we understand that and we got to this point last year and we got shut down 3 weeks later, but I think this year is going to be a lot better."
