Government Look To Lure New Teachers Into Regional Areas

Up to 20 university students in their final year of teaching will be able to access to up to $4000 to undertake professional experience placements in state run regional schools and preschools.

The scholarships aim to alleviate the financial pressures associated with taking up rural placements.

The government’s plan is to use the program to encourage newly qualified teachers to work in these areas after graduation.

Education and Child Development Minister Susan Close said that scholarships will be available from next year and open to all pre-service teachers studying at the metro-based campuses for the three state universities.
