Renewed Calls For National Rural Health Strategy

Rural Health

Rural and remote health advocates from across Australia are in Canberra today calling for the urgent development of a National Rural Health Strategy.

The delegation includes the newly elected Chair of the National Rural Health Alliance, Tanya Lehmann, who is calling for a new strategy to help overcome the disparity in service access between the city and the bush.

Lehmann said that statistics have proven that country people are, are on average, older, sicker and poorer than our city cousins.

CEO of Royal Flying Doctors Australia, Martin Laverty, said that vast distances, small populations, and social factors that influence health are some of the factors that need to be taken into account when forming a national strategy to address the issue.
