LEP Council Supports Draft Tourism Strategy

The District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula is supporting the City of Port Lincoln’s draft Port Lincoln and Southern Eyre Tourism Strategy.

As part of the initiative, a joint marketing strategy will be developed amongst the Southern Eyre Peninsula councils in conjunction with RDA Whyalla & Eyre Peninsula and the South Australian Tourism Commission.

The strategy estimates that $411,600 would be spent in the first three years in addition to the employment of a Tourism Development Officer as a shared resource between the three councils.

Council CEO Rod Pearson said that Council believes the roles of existing community development officers, visitor information centre staff and the RDA Whyalla & Eyre Peninsula Tourism Officer need to be assessed before they can commit to any funding for a new ‘Regional Tourism Development Officer’ role.
