The Eyre Peninsula Breakthrough Research Community Mental Health Round will be played on 22nd June in light of breaking the stigma behind mental health.
The Breakthrough Research Foundation is the only dedicated mental health research foundation in Australia who support groundbreaking research for those affected by mental health issues.
Funds raised from the Mental Health Round will go towards the Breakthrough Foundations for research.
Mentally Fit EP, Breakthrough Research Foundation, Empowering Lower Light, Magic 89.9 and 5CC have teamed up together to establish the initiative, that aims to have football and netball clubs across the region play in spirit of mental health awareness, while breaking down the stigma.
Members of the sporting community across the EP are encouraged to nominate someone with in the sporting community who is deserving of the Mental Health Round Award.
Emma Gale from Empowering Lower Eyre said “The Mental Health Round is really about getting clubs in the spirit of mental wellness, it’s about having them recognise people within their community, that do wonderful things, that look out for people that contribute to the clubs wellbeing and also inspiring other people.”
Overall the award is looking for qualities in a person that include:
- Contributes to their club’s wellbeing,
- Has demonstrated resilience,
- Shows support for others in the club/league, and/or
- Inspires others.
The award will be presented the same day as the game is played and all 6 leagues across the region will be an active part of the event.
Nominations open May 20th and close June 12th, and locals can find nomination forms through the Magic 89.9 and 5CC website
