This week the Marshall liberal government launched a new campaign that aims to create public awareness about how contagious the flu can be and how locals can help reduce the spread.

The campaign titled the “ick factor” is a reminder for everyone to look after themselves during this horror flu season.

Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade says the flu virus is spread by human contact and can live up to 48 hours on hard, smooth surfaces such as door handles, playground equipment and desktops.

The minister says they have distributed a record number of flu vaccine doses this year to protect the vulnerable people in our community.

Locals are being reminded that the flu can be fatal - even to a fit and healthy person, creating a higher level of importance to protect yourself and those around you from becoming sick too.

Health professionals says It’s important to also stay out of the infection radius by keeping at least one metre between yourself and someone who has flu-like symptoms.
