New Guide to Help Parents Cope with Youth Self-Harm

A new guide is being launched to help parents and carers across the Eyre Peninsula support young people who are self-harming.

It comes as research shows as many as 1 in 10 young Australians will self-harm at some point in their lives.

Associate Professor Jo Robinson from Orygen says the guide provides practical advice and support so parents are informed and know how to respond.

“The guide is really designed to give parents some reliable information about self-harm to understand some of the reasons behind, help them start a conversation with their child and reassure them they are not alone, there will be lots of other families in their local community also struggling with this.

“So we’re encouraging local parents to access the guide and that’s freely available at the Orygen website “ said Jo.
