On Monday evening Police were called to the Port Lincoln hospital after a patient allegedly punched a nurse in the emergency department several times.
The victim was treated for facial injuries, sustaining a sore face, neck and shoulders.
An 18-year-old man from the Eyre Peninsula was arrested and charged with assault and bailed to appear in Pt Lincoln Magistrates Court on 10th September.
Amanda Treagus, the victim says the whole ordeal was unprovoked, they just started hitting her in the head and she didn’t have any time to defend herself or do anything and she started screaming.
She says she still in shock, overwhelmed and anxious about the whole incident.
“Nurses don’t go to work and expect this to happen.”
“I just want people to know this happens, there’s bigger things at play for emergency service workers for nursing staff, why would you hurt someone who is trying to help you? That’s basically my message.” Said Amanda.
