Streaky Bay Struggle to get Arts and Cultural Facilitator For Upper EP

Streaky Bay for the past two years have been striving to gain funding that would accommodate art and cultural facilitator for the region.

So far the applications have been unsuccessful even after investigating into a three council partnership with Wudinna, Elliston and Streaky Bay for a contract position utilising the budgeted $25,000 that would facilitate the upper Eyre Peninsula.

However, the application was again not forthcoming with country arts SA.

Wudinna and Elliston have now chosen to use their funding to still support Arts and Culture but not in an employment position focusing more on specific activities.

Streaky Bay Community and Economic Manager Penny Williams says having unsuccessful applications has been disheartening considering the closest arts and cultural facilitator is in Whyalla and Port Augusta which is still a long distance to travel, especially with our region so heavily involved in culture and arts.

“That position would support arts and culture in these communities, so it’s about fostering and developing initiatives to support local artists and cultural groups. “

Moving forward a report will be put together to council for the September meeting to seek future direction for the future of Streaky Bay.
