EOFY Phone Scams

With the new financial year upon us, the Australian Tax Office and South Australian Police are urging caution around phone scams.

Scammers have been using technology to make it appear as though the calls have been coming from a legitimate number, and will often claim that the recipient's Tax File Number has been suspended before asking for personal information, and often asking for payment through gift cards, vouchers, and cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

The ATO has advised that they do not use any pre-recorded messages and will never request information via email.

Both SAPOL and the ATO are urging Eyre Peninsula residents to be vigilant of scam calls, and if in doubt, to hang up, and call the ATO directly on 1800 008 540, or to visit the My Gov Website.
