Women across the Eyre Peninsula are being invited to join the CFS in a free Firey Women Workshop in September that will teach them how to be prepared for the bushfire season.

Therese Pedler from the Port Lincoln CFS said after the devastating Wangary bushfires in 2005, research found that there was a skill and knowledge shortage in women around bushfire preparedness.

The course covers everything related to the bushfire season from the science behind fire behaviour, fire danger ratings, practical skills and the three types of preparedness including emotional, physical and home and property preparedness.

Therese says the free course will run on Saturday and Sunday the 19th and 20th of September in Coffin Bay for any women on the EP who would like to attend.

"The Fiery Woman Program is actually the only program where we delve into the emotional preparation for bushfire emergency, we then go through what to do if a bushfire starts and put a plan into place.

"The aim is to have a written bushfire survival plan  by the end of the 2 day course," said Therese.

For more information and to register, locals can contact Therese Pedler.
