It’s been confirmed the Port Lincoln Business Excellence Awards have been canceled for 2020.
The awards, planned for late October, will no longer go ahead in wake of COVID restrictions and concerns around Victoria’s second wave.
The Port Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and Tourism committee held off on the decision with hopes restrictions would not be in place by that time however the chamber remains concerned around the viability of the event.
In light of the cancellation of the event, the chamber has chosen to postpone until 2021 with a focus on making the event even bigger and better, celebrating the resilience and success of business in the community.
Port Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Chairperson Jack Richie says the event required a certain number of people to make it viable but with restrictions, it would have been difficult to find a suitable venue.
“I guess from our point of view, we actually made the decision early but then restrictions started changing and we thought we might have had an opportunity but of course there a lot of uncertainly around that and the time frame for businesses to prepare given the circumstances, so there just wasn’t enough time.” Said Jack.
