BORDER PROTECTION, SA STYLE

With the dramas surrounding people trying to make a break from Victoria and escape to SA, the Marshall Government has decided to up the maximum penalty for an illegal crossing to include prison time.

It got me thinking about the merits of such a proposal.

There’s a variety of opinions on this, so I thought I’d lay out the arguments for three different positions and let you make up your own mind.

--------------------------------------------------------------

THE NEW PENALTY ISN’T HARSH ENOUGH

Let’s face it.

Our health is at risk here.

And what’s more, these border jumpers are coming from Victoria.

Do we really want Victorians in South Australia?

Ever?

Forget the thing right now, do we want Victorians in Australia full stop?

What with their hipster attitudes, and their superiority complex?

They’re also responsible for Collingwood.

And now they’re sick!

Lock them up and deport them immediately!

------------------------------------------------------------

THE NEW PENALTY IS APPROPRIATE

The government had to do something.

And this is about right.

We can’t have Victorians spreading disease in SA.

Next thing we know, we’ll have the Crows and Power throwing themselves around demanding everything in the AFL be done to accommodate them and nobody else.

Can you imagine Brenton Ragless hosting Millionaire Hot Seat?

What if Warren Tredrea hopped on the Footy Show and started acting like a buffoon?

It’s a small price to pay to stop these atrocities from happening.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE PENALTY IS WAY TOO HARSH.

These people live in Victoria.

Haven’t they suffered enough?

------------------------------------------

So, what do you think?

Is 2 years in lockup enough punishment for Victorian border runners?

Or should we be kinder to them?
