A Mario blast from the past just got a shiny new upgrade! Get ready to relive or discover for the very first time, the cosmic adventures of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, now available on Nintendo Switch (and the hot new Nintendo Switch 2!).

Remember your first encounter with the enchanting Rosalina and her adorable Lumas? Or teaming up with Yoshi for gravity-defying fun? Now you can experience all that magic again! Both classic Wii titles are back, looking better than ever with enhanced visuals perfect for your console. Plus, Nintendo’s added some exciting new chapters to the in-game Storybooks, so you can dive even deeper into the lore of Rosalina and the Lumas.

Beyond the sharper resolution and extra Storybook elements, these revamped versions boast a brand-new soundtrack mode with newly added tracks. And for those moments when Bowser’s giving you a bit too much grief, there’s an Assist Mode (hello, extra health and recovery!) and AutoSave to keep your progress safe. You’ll be jumping, gliding, and swinging through space like a pro, all with button, stick, and motion controls adapted for your Joy-Con and Joy-Con 2 controllers.

A free update for Nintendo Switch 2 brings stunning 4K resolution support to both titles. You can grab Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 as a combined release, or download each game individually from the Nintendo eShop.

Next year, two new amiibo figures are launching: Mario & Luma (scan them for a Life Mushroom!) and Rosalina & Lumas (for a handy 1-Up Mushroom). These larger-than-standard amiibo drop on 2nd April, 2026.

Also an illustrated hardcover edition of Rosalina’s Storybook, featuring the original art and story, is available for pre-purchase now on My Nintendo Store and selected retailers, releasing 25th November.

It’s been a massive year for the Mushroom Kingdom, with Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto announcing a slew of celebrations for Super Mario Bros.’ 40th anniversary (which kicked off on 13th September, 1985!). If you missed his special Nintendo Direct presentation, you can catch it here:

With today’s release of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, plus The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hitting cinemas worldwide in April 2026, and new games like Mario Tennis Fever (12th February, 2026) and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book (autumn 2026) coming to Nintendo Switch 2, it’s clear Mario fans have a lot to look forward to!
