It’s going to be a big year this year, no doubt about it. For the athletic world in particular it comes with another Winter Olympic Games! Is this perhaps the first you’re hearing about it? Don’t fret my friend as we have all the details for you on when and where you can catch the games later this year.

The last Winter Olympics were held in Beijing of 2022 and saw a total of 2,861 competitors compete in over 100 events. Well, this year we depart Asia and head west, over to the western side of Europe. Landing in none other than Italy. This year the games will be held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. This will mark the fourth time that Italy will have hosted and the 35th Winter Olympic Games.

The games will commence on the 6th of February, just under a month away, and will conclude on the 22nd of February. Meaning we’ll have 16 days of winter game madness to watch and barrack our Aussies!

Ice Hockey, Snowboard Big Air and Curling will actually start two days before the Opening Ceremony so we actually get a cheeky extra two days. Additionally Ski Mountaineering will be making its debut at the games this year.

This year marks a huge mile stone as it’s the most gender-balanced Winter Olympics in history to date with 47 percent of the competing athletes being female. For the 2026 games Australia has selected Alisa Camplin to be the Chef de Mission to represent our country.

You can catch the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics exclusively on Channel9 and 9Now when it airs in February.
