Streaky Bay Council has outlined its key priorities ahead of the upcoming state election, calling on local candidates to commit to addressing the district’s most pressing needs.
The Council has identified four priorities for the region: water security, mobile phone coverage, shark mitigation, and the reclassification of the Flinders Highway.
Improving mobile coverage is a major focus, with Telstra recently identifying the need for more than 30 additional mobile towers across the region to address ongoing blackspots. Council is seeking an $8 million contribution to help deliver the upgrades across the Eyre Peninsula.
Water security is also a priority, with Council calling for $500,000 in funding to develop a comprehensive water supply options paper for the district.
The priorities also include support for an acoustic receiver trial to improve shark mitigation on the West Coast.
The state election will be held on March 21.
